2. Montreal Christmas Village at Atwater Market (Village de Noël de Montréal)
Smaller, cozier and more of a neighbourhood feel. The Christmas Village sets up beside the historic Atwater Market and the Lachine Canal, with armchairs around fire pits and chalets full of handmade goods from local artisans. It’s a good pick for families, and you can pick up cheese, bread and a Christmas tree at the market while you’re there. Its best-known night is the Montreal Raclette Party, a giant melted-cheese feast that draws thousands of people. The 2026 date hadn’t been announced yet when we checked.

Noël dans le Parc is a Montreal tradition: a free outdoor Christmas festival with bonfires, live music, shows and old-fashioned holiday decor. It’s not just a market. It runs at three sites: the Parterre in the Quartier des spectacles (steps from the Great Christmas Market), Parc des Compagnons-de-Saint-Laurent and Parc Lahaie in the Plateau. It’s also a place to buy a real spruce Christmas tree, and your purchase supports the festival.

- Admission: Free

4. AvH German Christmas Market
Run by the Alexander von Humboldt German International School for 46 years, this one-day market is a West Island favourite, with German-style crafts, baking and holiday food. It’s only on for a single day, so mark your calendar.

5. Holiday pop-up market at Time Out Market Montréal
An indoor option for when it’s too cold to be outside. Some forty local artisans set up inside Time Out Market in the Centre Eaton for a weekend. You can shop for gifts and then eat at the food hall. Tips for visiting Montreal’s Christmas markets
- Dress for real cold. December evenings in Montreal are often well below freezing. Wear boots, a hat and mittens, and use the fire pits.
- Go on a weeknight. The Great Christmas Market gets busy on Saturdays. A Wednesday or Thursday evening is calmer, and the lights look best after dark.
- Take the metro. All the main markets are close to a station, and parking downtown in December is expensive and hard to find.
- Combine your visits. The Great Christmas Market and the Noël dans le Parc site on the Parterre are side by side in the Quartier des spectacles, so you can see both in one evening.
- Try the local flavours. Look for maple taffy, hot cider, tourtière and raclette.
