With its stone walls, the Château Frontenac and snowy streets, Quebec City is one of the most Christmassy places in North America, and it’s an easy trip from Montreal. Here’s how to plan Christmas in Quebec City in 2026.
Getting there from Montreal
- Distance: about 250 km
- By car: about 3 hours on Highway 20 or 40. Winter tires are mandatory in Quebec from December 1 to March 15.
- By train: VIA Rail runs several trains a day between Montreal’s Central Station and Quebec City.
- By bus: intercity buses run between the two cities throughout the day.
The German Christmas Market
Quebec City’s German Christmas Market turns Old Québec into a European-style Christmas village with wooden stalls, mulled wine, pretzels and live shows. Around 125 exhibitors set up on several free sites near City Hall.
- Dates: November 19 to December 23, 2026
- Open: Thursday to Sunday, plus Monday, December 21 and Tuesday, December 22
- Price: free entry

More Christmas in Quebec City
