Buying a real tree is a Montreal tradition, whether you carry it home from a street-corner stand or cut it yourself at a farm outside the city. Here’s where to buy a Christmas tree in Montreal.
In the city
- Noël dans le Parc: the festival sells real spruce trees at its sites, and your purchase helps fund the festival. Open December 4 to 24, 2026. Noël dans le Parc
- Public markets: Atwater Market and Jean-Talon Market have tree stands in December. At Atwater, the Christmas Village sets up right beside them.
- Street-corner stands: temporary tree lots pop up on busy corners in the Plateau, Rosemont, NDG and other neighbourhoods from late November.
- Garden centres and hardware stores also sell trees and stands.
Cut your own (u-pick)
- Ferme Quinn (Notre-Dame-de-l’Île-Perrot): about 20 minutes west of the island, a popular family farm known for its seasonal activities.
- Arbres de Noël Hadley (Lachute): about an hour from Montreal. In 2025, u-pick ran from November 14 to December 23.
Check each farm’s website for 2026 dates, prices and whether you need to book.
Choosing and caring for your tree
- Run your hand along a branch: the needles should bend, not fall off.
- Cut a thin slice off the bottom of the trunk before putting it in water.
- Keep the stand full of water every day, and keep the tree away from heaters and fireplaces.
After the holidays
Montreal boroughs collect Christmas trees in January. Remove all decorations, and check the city’s Info-collectes service for your borough’s collection date.
